Nivada Grenchen’s origins date back to 1926 in Grenchen, Switzerland. Over the years, the brand has gained a reputation for producing robust, purpose-built tool watches. Only four years after inception, the brand become one of the pioneering manufacturers of automatic watches. Their first automatic water-resistant offering called Nivada Antarctic launched in 1950 has remained in horological archives as it has taken up by members of the US Antarctic expedition Operation Deep Freeze that went to the South Pole.

After a period of inactivity, Nivada Grenchen has been resurrected by French entrepreneurs Guillaume Laidet and Rem Chabrat in 2020. The duo has since brought back the key models in the form of updated collections that respect as much as possible designs and stick to the authentic specifications. As part of the revival, Nivada has also taken the freedom to play around and issue a few limited edition models in collaboration with Time+Tide.
