Description

The sportier Fears watch.

Hand built in Britain.

Graceful and complex, the curvaceous Brunswick 40 takes its inspiration from a gentleman’s cushion case watch in the Fears archives, first made in 1924.

This sportier iteration of the Brunswick is the perfect all-round watch, taking you from beach to boardroom with ease.

CASE

The Brunswick 40’s elegant yet sporty 40 mm cushion-shaped case has no flat surfaces. The case’s glancing curves are machined from 316L stainless steel in Hong Kong, to a level usually reserved for precious metals. The depth of the polish along with the hand grained finish applied to the top of the case’s corners showcase the sophistication of the machinery and the skill of the operator.

Complementing the case is Fears bespoke ‘onion’-shaped winding screw down crown, signed with the Fears Cypher. Screwed into the case, the crown’s fine grooves catch the light, adding a touch of radiance to the edge of the case.

Built with uprated proportions, the Brunswick 40 is 150m water resistant, allowing it to be swum in when the crown is screwed all the way in.

DIAL

The Brunswick 40 Silver features an Opaline Silver dial with a bright finish created using a coating of 99.9% pure silver.

Expertly made in Germany, the surface of the dial is on two levels, each with its own distinct finish:

  • Central lower section – Finished with micro-guilloché. Concentric rings are cut into the dial’s surface using a CNC machine. These delicate ‘rills’ are so fine, like a record's grooves, that they appear invisible to the naked eye yet catch the light giving a beautiful subtle sunburst finish.
  • Outer raised section- A genuine Opaline finish using a traditional method of polishing with straw that results in a bright frosted effect, which the numerals are hand riveted to.

The ‘Edwin’ numerals are milled from a block of brass before being diamond polished and then coated in black gold, giving them a warm, grey/black appearance. These numerals are realised in our custom ‘Edwin’ typeface, specially designed for Fears by our horological typographer and inspired by the many different typefaces the company has used throughout its history.

Look out for the tiny red triangle at 12 o’clock. A subtle reference to several pieces in the Fears Archive.

HANDS

The Brunswick 40’s distinctive ‘Fears’-shaped hands are milled from solid brass with a bevel cut down the centre using a diamond tool. This results in a highly polished surface that catches the light, giving excellent legibility in low-light conditions. These hands are finished in a coating of black gold that perfectly matches the polished 3D numerals.

The seconds hand is hand-painted in a deep red, matching the red triangle at 12 o’clock. Historically Fears watches with a central seconds hand had this hand painted red to aid with timing of medical and sporting events.

MOVEMENT

The Brunswick 40 is powered by a Swiss made, automatic winding ETA 2824-2 movement. Winding itself when worn on the wrist, this movement is made to Top-grade standard with a decorated winding rotor hidden behind the closed case back. This movement has had its date mechanism removed allowing precise control when setting the time with no "ghost" date position.

The accurate and reliable ETA 2824-2 movement is a popular choice, with easy servicing and regulating. Fears service and modify each movement in Britain.

BRACELET

The Brunswick 40 is fitted to a bespoke stainless steel 5-link bracelet with expertly brushed and polished links.

Featuring solid screw links, the bracelet has a substantial feel while the silky-smooth movement of the links ensure a comfortable fit around the wrist. The bracelet can be micro-adjusted with both the 8 mm and 6 mm links provided, ensuring a perfect fit. The bracelet is secured to the wrist using a trigger-release butterfly style clasp with the Bristol flower enamelled discreetly inside the blades.

The Brunswick 40 features a 20 mm lug width and is designed to fit all of the straps in our range. The bracelet can be removed without tools using its quick-release springbars.

The perfect fit!

When you purchase a Brunswick 40 we can adjust the bracelet size for you before sending it. Please contact us by email with your order number and wrist size and we’ll do the rest. We will provide any spare links in an envelope with your watch.

INDIVIDUALLY NUMBERED

Each watch Fears make carries a unique serial number. Engraved between the lugs at 12 o’clock, this number helps Fears identify your watch and its history.

BRITISH BOX

For decades Fears presented watches in a dark blue box with a cream-coloured lining. Fears are delighted to continue this tradition today.

The Brunswick 40 is presented in a bespoke wooden box, crafted in Britain from English Ash, which is stained Fears Blue and lined in genuine cream suede.

Why buy from us?

We aren't your usual AD, purchase history NOT required.

We are here to democratise watches. We approach watches with an open mind. Your budget, your AD relationships, the current state of  your collection, it doesn’t make a difference to us – we see value at every end of the spectrum, and we can help build your collection, build your knowledge while keeping it all as fun as absolutely possible. We are all about opening up the conversation, and about giving you advice that has value.

Don't take our word for it, check out our recent Google reviews:

"For as long as I'm alive, I will ALWAYS check Time&Tide before buying another watch. I'm going to have difficulty explaining how over-the-top and personable their customer service is through a mere Google review. You're going to have to feel it for yourself, and I have no doubt that you will..." Read the full review.

"Really enjoyed the visit to Time+Tide Watches Melbourne, clearly run by enthusiasts, appreciated the honest opinions, refreshing to chat to guys with appreciation for watches in general who aren’t trying to push a certain brand or meet quotas, different to the traditional visit to an AD, but certainly in a good way." Read the review.

"I'm a new customer and have had a great experience. I live outside of Australia and Time+Tide are the only retailers for DOXA in my region, Sean and his team have been nothing but accommodating in helping me purchase my watch and also facilitate a non standard pick up method. Really appreciate the help and time fellas, cheers. Highly recommended and will definitely be back for another DOXA in the future." Read the review.

"Great group people, that are very knowledgeable. The location itself is a little hidden and may be easily missed. The staff themselves were very friendly and honest about their opinion. It is definitely more relaxed and friendly then other watch AD. I can recommend stopping in there and having a discussion about watches if you’re passionate about them. Overall, very great experience and happy with my purchase." Read the review.

"Definitely had a great experience choosing a watch to buy. They were extremely knowledgeable and gave me plenty of options and suggestions that fit my needs. Definitely were not pushy and it looks like everyone there just has a passion for watches. Shout out Kieran!" Read the review.
