Our Best Quartz Watches

Quartz watches are making a comeback, and we have listed some of our favourites here for you to pick from.

1. Hamilton Khaki Field Quartz 38mm

With its well-executed form and affordable price, the Khaki Field has earned its place as the best entry-level field watch. Since it has a quartz variant, adding it to this list was a no-brainer.

You have two case sizes (38mm and 33mm) and three colourways (black, white, and blue) to pick from. The 38mm model featured here has a white dial with cream-coloured luminescent Arabic numerals surrounded by a railroad minute track. The dial is paired with an olive green NATO strap.

A 50m depth rating means you can't go diving with this watch strapped to your wrist, but you certainly don't have to be worried about it in an unexpected downpour.

2. Tissot PRX - Light Green

This recreation of a PRX from 1978 features a barrel-shaped 40mm case on an integrated bracelet made of stainless steel. It does the dressy-sporty vibe well.

The dial is topped with a sapphire crystal and has a vertical brushed finish, thin silvery accents with lume, a date window at 3, and a sloped chapter ring.

You can pick from a few colourways for the PRX, but the clear showstopper is the mint green dial shown here. It could very well lead to an impulse buy. You have been warned.

3. Hamilton American Classic Boulton Quartz

The Classic Boulton's cameo as "Indy's" wristwatch in the Harrison Ford starrer Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny may be its latest claim to fame, but the watch was making waves long before that. It first appeared on the scene in 1941, underwent a revival in the '80s, and made another comeback this decade with a quartz movement.

This handsome timepiece features a 27mm almost-tonneau gold PVD-treated case on a brown calf-leather strap. We love the silvery white dial with its golden applied Arabic numerals and matching handset. The seconds hand sits separately on an azurage-finish sub-dial at 6 o'clock.

The Classic Boulton Quartz falls in the dress watch category, but it pairs just as well with jeans and sneakers. You could say it's "a watch of action."

4. Tissot Seastar 1000 Chronograph

If you have the wrist or the preference to pull off a chunky watch, do give the 45.5mm Seastar Chronograph a chance.

This reference shares many traits with its non-chronograph counterpart, such as a sturdy form, ceramic bezel insert, luminescent accents, an 80-hour autonomy, and a whopping 300m of water resistance (which translates to 1000 feet of dive support). But unlike the latter, it comes with a quartz movement. And as expected, it adds more visual details to accommodate the chronograph part. It also moves the date window to the contentious 4:30 position, a design choice that seems of little consequence when the rest of the package is so good.

5. Hamilton American Classic PSR Digital Quartz

Recreating Hamilton's first all-electronic digital watch from 1972 is this all-black, PVD-treated, always-on model with a hybrid LCD and OLED digital display in red. It has a 40.8mm black case on an integrated bracelet made of brushed stainless steel.

You don't need the pusher on the watch to read the dial during the day, but you can use it to raise the brightness at night. With a second push you'll see a dynamic seconds count on the display.

6. CASIO MDV107D-3A

Put this Casio Duro model on your radar if you want a sporty, durable watch under $200. It's a 200m time-and-date diver made popular by Bill Gates, one of the richest men in the world.

The watch has a 46mm case, unidirectional rotating bezel, a screw-down caseback, luminescent accents, and a date window at 3 o'clock. With the variant featured here, you get a black dial and a dark green bezel insert. Models with a different colour variations and two-tone bezel are also available.

7. G-SHOCK MRGB5000D-1D

All G-Shocks run on a quartz movement. The one featured here is a reissue of the first ever G-Shock, the MRG-B5000. The new iteration is an ultra tough, titanium-based, digital model with 200m of water resistance.

The usual functions you expect from a high-quality G-Shock are all there. We're talking time zones, alarms, a stopwatch, Bluetooth connectivity, Tough Solar charging, etc. With its red-bordered, brick-patterned octagonal frame, the display mimics the original design.

What makes this a jump up from the base model is the inclusion of Casio's extra durable Ti61 titanium, which is twice as strong as the traditional titanium. The bracelet itself uses proprietary material DAT55G, claimed to be three times harder. The bezel uses a cobalt-chrome alloy which is four times stronger than pure titanium.

This truly serves as the best offering of a watch to brave the office day, but also the harsh elements.
