Tissot Telemeter

A rare feature in watchmaking

The Tissot Telemeter 1938 earns its name from one of the two timing scales featured on its dial. Painted in red or gold, the central Base 1000 tachymeter scale crosses through the two chronograph sub-registers adding a striking visual element. Surrounding the outer edge of the dial is the telemeter scale, historically used to calculate the distance of lighting strikes. The dial’s refined look is completed with a black minute track and bold Arabic numerals. Tissot’s design includes two chronograph counters - a 30-minute counter on the right at 3 o’clock and a 60-second on on the left at 9 o’clock.

With a 42mm stainless steel case and a 13.9mm thickness, the Tissot Telemeter 1938 makes a confident statement on the wrist. At Time+Tide, the Telemeter is offered with either a black or white dial. The black version is adorned with opulent gold carvings, while the white one is set apart by its standout red telemeter scale. Both models are equipped with leather straps in rich brown tones, adding warmth and sophistication to their aesthetic.

Tissot Telemeter HIGHLIGHTS

A movement built for accuracy

Beneath the dial of the Tissot Telemeter 1938 lies the Calibre A05.231 automatic movement, visible through a transparent sapphire caseback. This modern movement offers a 68-hour power reserve, providing reliability for those on the go. Key innovations include a Nivachron hairspring, which significantly reduces the effects of magnetism, and a variable-inertia balance with indexless regulation for improved precision and stability. Operating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4Hz), this calibre ensures smooth and accurate timekeeping.

Vintage revival with dressy twist

The Telemeter 1938 celebrates Tissot’s first foray into sports timekeeping while gracefully aligning with the dress watch category. With a water resistance of 30 metres, it is equipped to handle occasional splashes, though its primary focus lies in style and historical homage. For nostalgic watch enthusiasts, the Telemeter 1938 is a beautifully crafted tribute to the early days of chronographs in sports.
